Braces…not just for kids anymore. Years ago when people thought about orthodontic braces they pictured a pre-teen or a teenager with a mouth full of metal. But times have certainly changed. Today, orthodontic treatment is not just for kids anymore. People of any age group can now have the smile they have always wanted and deserved.
Adults all over the world are more conscious today about their appearance and their smile is one of the first features that other people notice. According to an Invisalign survey, 74 % of American women and men believe that an attractive smile is important for getting their dream job, while 84 % feel it is critical for their love lives.
We have all read about or even seen celebrities who are wearing braces and have gone through orthodontic treatment. People like Tom Cruise, Manu Ginobili, Gwen Stefani, Faith Hill and even Katy Perry had orthodontic treatment…braces are cool at any age.
In an article published in the Wall Street Journal, it is stated “More than 1.2 million adults in the U.S. received orthodontic treatment in 2012, the most recent numbers available from the American Association of Orthodontists. That is up 39% from 1996. By comparison, about 4.65 million orthodontic procedures were performed for patients aged 17 and younger in 2012, up 32% in the same period. Also, a unique digital perception study, developed by Kelton Research contrasted images of men and women with straight and crooked teeth. The survey was taken by 1,047 nationally representative Americans. In the study, respondents were shown images of people with varying tooth issues and asked to give their honest opinion about them, unaware that they were comparing people with straight teeth to crooked teeth. Results of the study indicated Americans perceive people with straight teeth to have more desirable qualities than those with crooked teeth, including attributes such as being happy, surrounded by loved ones, and professionally successful.
For some, clear aligners may be a great option if they don’t want others to notice they’re going through orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth. Unfortunately, not every orthodontic problem can be treated with invisible braces. Some orthodontic problems can only be corrected with traditional braces, whether clear ceramic brackets or metal brackets. No matter what your orthodontic problem, Becher & Gil Orthodontics can help you choose your best orthodontic treatment option to create the beautiful smile you deserve. We treat patients of all ages.
