Your first visit

Your first orthodontic visit

Your first orthodontic appointment is a complimentary one-hour consultation. We are always excited to meet new patients and are happy to offer you a complimentary one-hour initial consult. At this visit, our treatment coordinator will welcome you, ask you about your concerns, and take some preliminary diagnostic information (including i-CAT® 3D imaging as appropriate.) One of our orthodontists will review your concerns and medical history, before conducting a thorough clinical examination.

Understanding your needs

At this appointment our orthodontists will determine the following:

  • Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?

  • Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth?

  • What treatment plans are feasible and which one is the best for you?

  • How long we estimate your treatment will take.

  • What types of appliances (if any) are needed.

  • Are you a candidate for braces? Clear aligners? SureSmile®?

What’s next in your orthodontic treatment?

If orthodontic treatment is indicated at this time, we proceed with diagnostic records. Diagnostic records are a key component to help our orthodontists determine your best course of treatment. They include study models of your teeth, photographs, and i-CAT® 3D imaging.

While we can often answer general questions about treatment during the initial examination, more specific areas of treatment may need to be addressed after more careful analysis of the diagnostic records. Your general dentist may be contacted at a later date if further information or history is needed in order to provide you with the best care possible. It is important to analyze each patient’s specific needs because in-depth planning will lead to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.
